Swiss Alpine Diploma in Hotel Management

The 2-year Swiss Alpine Diploma in Hotel Management covers all the major theoretical and practical components of a hotel operation. It also enables the student to acquire the business skills necessary to manage a hotel operation profitably, while at the same time adhering to world-class standards. The two years of study, which include two industry placements of 20 weeks each, lead to the award of the Swiss Alpine Diploma in Hotel Management. The two industry placements (semesters 2 and 4) are an integral part of the programme.
The Diploma in Hotel Management programme is delivered in an actual hotel campus, in order to offer students opportunities for learning by doing, i.e. the respected Swiss education model. Equal emphasis is given to acquiring knowledge on the hotel operation and hotel management of different departments and to applying it in a real business environment.
First year hotel management diploma students learn about hotel operations such as front office, housekeeping, food and beverage production and service by working on duty teams and running the hotel campus operations under the supervision of expert instructors at the same time as attending theory classes. Second year students become more involved in the managerial aspects of hotel operations, by undertaking supervisory responsibilities such as quality control, shift plans etc.
In this way, hotel management diploma students are not only taught ‘theory’ and ‘practice’ but combine theoretical and practical knowledge during the semester at college followed by actual industry practice during the summer.
